CB Kids November 13
Our current series is called "Behind the Scenes" where we see the story of Esther play out like a story on the big screen. There are heroes, villains, spies and treachery... and ultimately a faithful God who is writing the script for a story of care and protection.
Today, we’re going to follow Mordecai and a new character, Haman, and hear about all the royal drama that goes on behind the scenes of the palace where Esther lives. We'll see that God helps us do good behind the scenes.
Ask your child:
Think of your favourite show. How many people do you think are working behind the scenes?
Have some fun: Play a game of freeze dance but instead of yelling "Go!" and "Freeze!", yell, "Action!" and "Cut!" These are words you'd hear on a movie set when the Director wants you to start and stop your scene.
Read these Bible verses:
Talk about it:
Pray together:
Dear God, thank you for loving us and helping us do good things. You are always working behind the scenes, helping us to do what’s good. It’s not always easy or glamorous to choose to do good, but we want to do it for you and for the people in our lives. Help us to notice all the ways we can do good in our world even though we might not get any credit for it. We know you see us and that’s all that matters. Amen.
Learn the memory verse:
“For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.” (Philippians 2:13)
Recap:
God was with Mordecai when Mordecai decided to do good and not bow down to the king. Mordecai only wanted to worship God. Even though Mordecai didn’t know it then, Mordecai’s bravery helped the Jews. And God was with him the whole time, even behind the scenes.
It’s nice to get recognition for the good things we do, and we shouldn’t feel badly when we’re given
compliments or prizes. But we shouldn’t only do good things to get that kind of attention. The kind of love God gives us should motivate us to share that love, regardless of who’s watching!
