CB Kids November 6

New month, new series! Today we're launching into the Old Testament story of Esther in the series titled, "Behind the Scenes." This is a story that plays out like a Hollywood movie - intrigue, spies, plots for revenge... you will love the story and the Master script-writer, God!
Ask your child:
  • When you're going fast on a roller coaster, do you keep your eyes open or closed?
  • When you're going fast on your bike, do you keep your eyes open or closed? (Please say 'open'!!!)

Have some fun:
  • Play a game of "Haman Says" -- it's like Simon Says, but using the name Haman. The kids will learn that Haman made everyone bow down to him and he was a tricky guy, so have some fun tricking your kids while you're playing this game.

Read these passages from the Bible:
  • Esther 2:1-18; 2 Thessalonians 2:13-17

Talk about it:
Esther went from living a normal life to becoming a queen very quickly. God had a plan for Esther because God works behind the scenes in our lives.
  • Why was it necessary to find a new queen?
  • Who was Mordecai?
  • What was the secret Mordecai told Esther to keep?
  • Read 2 Thessalonians 2:16—17. Who encourages us to do good?
  • Name a few different kinds of work people do behind the scenes.
  • Can you think of some ways God works behind the scenes for us?
  • Why do you think God sometimes works behind the scenes and not center stage?

Pray Together :
Dear God, thank you for knowing us and knowing our families. Even though we can’t see you, we know you are there. Thank you for being with us like you were with Esther. Amen.

Learn the memory verse:
“For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.” (Philippians 2:13)

Recap:
“Behind the scenes” is something we say to talk about what goes on in the background, which we normally can’t see.  Picture the CB Kids all standing on stage to present their Christmas songs and poems, and the teachers are kneeling on the floor in front of the kids just out of sight from the rest of the audience. The audience can't see the teacher helping with the actions, but the kids know the teacher is there. In the book of Esther we see one story play out on the main page (Esther becoming Queen) but another story happening out of sight - God rescuing His people. It might seem like Esther was just lucky to get chosen to become the queen, but we know God was behind the scenes and making it happen. And God works behind the scenes for us, too.
