CB Kids October 16

This week our CB Kids looked at Daniel 5 with a lesson titled, The Writing on the Wall. In it we see that I can keep learning — God is with me! Back in Babylon, Belshazzar is now in charge and he's making things very difficult for those who want to obey the Lord. Let's dive in and see what we can learn from this story.

Ask your child: What were your first words when you were a baby? Animals can learn to communicate, too!
Some parrots learn to talk.
Koko the gorilla learned sign language.
Some dogs learn to ask for what they want by pressing special buttons on a floor mat.

Have some fun: Talk together about which is easier:
  • Learning to spell your name or learning to write your phone number.
  • Learning to tie your shoes or learning to play the piano.
  • Learning to shoot a free throw in basketball or learning to ice skate.
  • Memorizing the names of the provinces or memorizing the 66 books of the Bible.
  • Learning to ride a unicycle or learning to jump rope.
  • Teaching a wild monkey to juggle or teaching a fish to climb a tree.

Read these verses: Daniel 5; 2 Timothy 3:14-17

Talk about it:
  • What happened to King Nebuchadnezzar?
  • What did the handwriting on the wall say?
  • What happened to King Belshazzar after he threw the big party?
  • Read 2 Timothy 3:14–17. What are the things that the Bible does to help us learn?
  • Who is the best teacher or coach you’ve ever had and why?
  • What is God teaching you about right now?
  • What are some things you can do to learn more about God this week?

Pray together: God, thank you for teaching us new things. Help us to share what we learn with others. Amen.

Learn the memory verse:
“The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him.” (Nahum 1:7)

Watch the videos for this week:
Preschool to grade 1
Grades 2 to 5

Recap: Last week we learned that Nebuchadnezzar acknowledged that God was real and powerful, but then he went off the rails again. Sadly, his son wasn't any better. They didn't learn from their experiences with God. Jesus doesn’t expect us to have it all together. He knows that growing in our faith will be something we do our whole lives. He simply invites us to keep learning and to follow Jesus one day at a time. What a gift it is to know that I can keep learning — God is with me!
