CB Kids August 21-27

Welcome to Famous, our CB Kids series for the month of August! In this series, we are going to follow the Bible’s most famous royal family — the family of King David! We’ll get the inside scoop on all the family secrets and drama . . . and learn how God famously watched over these royals!
Last time, we learned Solomon was chosen to be the next king of Israel, and it was going to be a big job! In this third lesson we learn that when we need help, we can ask for God’s guidance.

Talk with your child: Have you ever seen a movie where they do really difficult stunts like backflips, flying across something, and jumping really high? A lot of times, the people in the movies get help from people called, “stunt doubles,” who help them out and do the hard moves for them. Does that sound like a job you'd like to have? Why or why not?

Have some fun: Can you name a movie that ...
  • Has talking animals? Has a princess? Has singing? Has a sequel? Has superheroes? Is based on a book?

Read these passages from the Bible:
  • I Kings 2:10-12; 3:3-14
  • Ephesians 5:8-17

Talk about it: If you were Solomon, what do you think you would have asked God for? Who can help you make the best choices? Read Ephesians 5:8-10. How did Solomon’s request demonstrate goodness, righteousness, and truth?

Pray together: Dear God, there are times when we are too shy or too proud to ask for help. But you remind us that it makes you happy when your children reach out to you and ask for help. So, please help us, God! Guide us so we can make wise choices, overcome our challenges, and keep making you famous by telling everyone about how good you are. Amen.

Learn the memory verse:  “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” I Corinthians 10:31 (NIV)  Click here for the ASL video for this Bible verse.

Recap: Wisdom means knowing what the best choice is to make in every situation. Solomon knew to be a good king, he would need to make lots of wise and good choices! God was very happy Solomon asked for wisdom, even though he could have asked for anything in the whole world. Asking God is always the best choice!
