CB Kids June 5–11

This month we are in a series called Ever After. Fairytales are fun and entertaining, but we are going to look at the true story of Ruth to see how God truly writes the best stories for us!
Ask your child: Brainstorm a list of things that makes someone a good friend.  Now think of some things that makes someone a bad friend.

Have some fun: Using the lists you made, play a game of "What kind of friend are you, Mr Wolf?". Stand across the room with your back to your children. One at a time they will call out, "What kind of friend are you, Mr Wolf?" and the parent will call out good friend traits (kids step forward two giant steps) or bad behaviour (kids step forward two baby steps). When you're ready, reply with "I'M A HUNGRY FRIEND" turn and try to catch your kids before they run to safety.

Read these passages from the Bible:
  • Ruth 1
  • Acts 2:1–6

Talk about it: Talk about a time when you were having a hard time and God sent you a companion to give you hope and encouragement.
In fairytales and movies, we see lots of great friendships. Woody and Buzz, Olaf and Anna... God gives us companions in real life, too. So when we walk through the hardest journeys or even if we were to experience very sad tragedies, we can know we are not alone. There is always someone you can count on because God sends us companions.

Pray together: Dear God, thank you for all the people in my life who stand by me and encourage me during both good times and hard times. Thank you for sending us the Holy Spirit to be our companion for ever after. Amen.

Recap:
A companion is a trusted friend who  God sends to stick by your side. Jesus promised the disciples that even though he would no longer be with them, the Holy Spirit would be their companion to help them as they spread the word about Jesus everywhere. Naomi and Ruth were companions who took a hard and long journey together. We can learn from the Bible about how to be good companions and find good ones too!
