Blind Date? - Day 6 of 21 Days of Hope

Goal: Hope Through You
Theme: Minister
Difficulty: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐ (5/10)

Ask anyone who has been on a blind date and they will tell you that first impressions are very important.

In fact, it is believed that the first four minutes of personal contact in a new situation will almost always determine whether strangers will become acquaintances or perhaps even close friends. If this is the case, then what happens in the first few minutes of meeting your blind date is critical.

What does this have to do with 21 Days of Hope, and Easter?

First impressions are also important for guests who try church for the first time (or the first time in a long time). We don't know what they been through and we can't guess what finally motivated them to come, but most times it is because they are searching for something.

Maybe they call it "searching for more" or "looking for peace",  but at the root of  these is hope. They are searching for true, lasting, and indwelling hope.

Because they are searching, let's make sure that our first impression is our best impression.

Paul writes, “Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them… Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically… When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality” (Rom.12:9–13 NLT).

This Sunday as we prepare to welcome people into the church for worship, consider how you will greet one another, particularly if it is someone you don't recognize.

  • Not, "Are you new?" But instead: "Great to see you!"
  • Not, "What do you do for a living?" But instead: "I'm glad you are here!"
  • Not, "You're in my seat" But instead: "It's wonderful to share the morning with you!"
  • Not, "Is this your first Sunday?" But instead: "My name is _____; can I show you around the church a bit?"

As people are searching for hope this Easter season, let's make sure we are making our best impression and giving everyone our best as they come into Calvary.
