Grace in the Struggle

This week’s passage deals with a deeply sensitive and painful story—the tragic account of Tamar in 2 Samuel 13–14. It’s a raw and heartbreaking chapter that confronts us with abuse, injustice, and the devastating silence that followed. We won’t shy away from the weight of this story. Tamar’s voice matters. Her pain matters. And the failure of David to act with justice and courage exposes the brokenness not only in his family, but in the human heart.

These chapters remind us that even Israel’s greatest king fell short—passive when he should have pursued justice, silent when he should have spoken. In the grind of human failure and grief, this story leaves us longing for a better King. One who sees. One who defends. One who heals. That King is Jesus.
